Community Supported Agriculture 2018 Summer Season Membership

What is Community Supported Agriculture?

CSAs were created to support local agriculture. Small farmers have found that they are able to stay in business through the support of community members who purchase a ‘share’ of the farm in advance of the season. This ‘seed money’ helps to cover the cost of running the farm in the early season when production is at its lowest point of the year.

Why Join our CSA?

1.        You are directly supporting local agriculture and are receiving the freshest possible produce (other than growing it yourself!)

2.        You are receiving Certified Organic produce at an affordable price. We do not use synthetic fertilizers, herbicides or pesticides

3.        You are eating seasonally. The produce you receive is at its most flavorful because it is grown in season and harvested at its peak ripeness.

4.        You will expand your horizons. Perhaps you will try a new veggie or two or will discover new varieties of old standbys

5.        You are joining a community of others who appreciate and value great food!

What is included in a share?

We grow over 100 varieties of heirloom fruits and veggies including lettuce, spinach, mixed greens, peas, beans, Jerusalem artichokes, winter and summer squash, tomatoes, eggplant, peppers, broccoli, cabbage, beets, carrots, radishes, onions, leeks, garlic, shallots, potatoes, strawberries, rhubarb and many more. Shares are typically enough produce for an average family of 4 or 2 veggie loving adults.

We do our best to tailor the CSA to meet the needs of the families involved. Boxes are packed to include a large enough variety to make many different types of meals. If you are uncertain that you will be able to eat an entire share, try sharing your extras with friends, neighbors or family. They may love what you don’t!

We are happy to purchase the totes for you. Add this item to your registration.

The CSA Season:

The Summer CSA will run for 18 weeks beginning on Wednesday, June 20th and will end on Wednesday, October 17th 2018. If you are unable to pick up your share at some point during the summer, you may have a friend pick up for you or we can donate your share to the Community Cupboard in Leavenworth.

What does it mean to be CSA a member?

By joining the CSA you are agreeing to eat produce as it becomes available and while it is in season. We pledge to do our best to extend crop availability as much as possible given our climate. However, please do not expect tomatoes in June or peas in August. Sometimes there are crop failures. That is the risk of farming. But we will be sure that you as our customer receive the amount of produce you deserve with a reasonable amount of variation.

What else is available at the farm?

We offer a variety of vegetable plant starts in the spring for your home garden.  These items can also be found at Sage Mt. in Leavenworth.

Are you interested in purchasing larger quantities of produce for canning or freezing? Let us know. Wholesale prices are available for bulk purchases.

 Farmers Market:

Again this season we will be at the Leavenworth Community Farmers Market on Thursday evenings at 4 PM, and in Plain on Saturday mornings from 10AM-Noon. Both run June-October.

About Our Farm:

We are a leased 4 acre WSDA Certified Organic family run farm. Our farm has been Certified Organic by the State of Washington since 2003. We love the land that we work and do our best to care for the biologic diversity that exists within and around it. This will be our 12th year offering CSA shares to the community.  We are looking forward to a productive and enjoyable 2018 season.

Children are welcome to come out and visit the farm.  We try to make our farm a reasonably safe and fun environment for our children and yours.

And What About the Salad Mix…..Our salad mix will be available at farmers market as usual, but won’t be a weekly item in the CSA.  You can expect our specialty salad mix for the first few weeks of the CSA and a variety of head lettuce and greens thereafter.  Thanks for understanding!

Price Increase As you may have noticed, two years ago we had to increase the cost of the CSA. It has been years since there has been a price increase and unfortunately our costs to produce the CSA continue to rise. If this increase is a hardship for your family please let us know and we will try and find a solution.
